No Excuses!
By Pastor Patrick O. Lindsey
An excuse is an explanation offered to justify one’s actions or inactions; in other words, an excuse is an attempt to explain “why I did what I did” or “why I didn’t do what I should have done.”
We run out of a lot of things in life…money, time, energy, ideas, friends, patience, sugar, gas…but never excuses! Some excuses are good and reasonable – even acceptable, but most are flimsy attempts to duck our duties and avoid taking responsibility for our actions or inactions.
Unfortunately, God doesn’t accept excuses, especially in regard to our salvation and our service. In regard to salvation, one must put his or her faith in Jesus Christ Savior and Lord; you must be born again, washed in the blood of the Lamb. If you do are not, you will be eternally damned. You will be without excuse.
Likewise, regarding service, it is required of stewards that one be found faithful. We are commanded to serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. We are to present our bodies as living sacrifices, holy and acceptable unto God, which is our reasonable service. If we don’t, we’ll receive chastisement and suffer loss of reward. We are without excuse.
In Philippians 3:12-14, Paul states, “Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” Let us do likewise. No excuses.
